Bat House Forum

Hi all.
I live in Clinton,Illinois, about dead center of the state.
When should I start seeing bats?
My bat house came today, so I was busy getting it ready to put up and all. :grin:

I'm going to put it on a T.V. antenna tower.

Welcome! Probably any time now.......I live in NWPA and little browns start coming back the first week in April......I have big browns roosting right now......

I am in Cedar Rapids Iowa, and I have a few big browns back already. I usually have little browns back in my houses by April 15th.

I was going to paint my bat house brown, do you all paint yours ?
Or, is there a thread about painting the houses?

The literature says to paint/stain bat houses flat black in northern latitudes.........I stain/paint mine dark brown.....I think it looks better and gets plenty warm........little browns get their desired high temps much by roosting in high numbers anyways and big browns prefer cooler temps........I have had very good luck with brown as a color for my bat houses.

Today, I just put on the second coat of Manor brown paint on the house :thumbup:

I will put the house up Saturday on my 30 foot T.V. antenna tower and try to post some pictures.
They should love it, if I do get them :smile:
