What Color to paint house for Denton, Texas

Postby kelly » Fri Aug 08, 2003 2:27 pm

Hello all, My hubby and I plan to put up a bat house and need to know what color to paint the body and the roof. We live in Denton, Texas? We are just north of Dallas/Fort Worth area. I looked at the map on this site, but couldn't really tell from that. Thanks for your help.

I know the colors for northern texas bat houses are different than southern. I would still suspect a lighter shade or if your mounting more than one paint one a lighter shade than the other. I think Mark Kiser from BCI in TEXAS might help you, he checks the forum now and then and will probably give you more precision! Welcome to the BHF! :tanbigeye:

bat house color

Hi Kelly,

A medium shade of water-based paint or stain (such as medium gray, med. green, or med. brown) would be suitable for Denton. You can go a little darker if the house gets only 5 or 6 hours of direct summer sun, but don't locate it where it will receive any less sun that this.

If you can put up two houses, then one dark and one medium would give a range of options the bats can choose from.

Good luck, and thanks for helping bats.

Sincerely,

Mark
