Video embedding in new Forum

Postby Erik » Fri Nov 28, 2008 6:35 am

Great Job Joe! The new forum looks great!
The editor interface is very different, and i couldn't figure out how to embed videos from Google Video or YouTube.
So here's test.

Code: Select all
<embed id="VideoPlayback" src="http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docid=1086064787635235834&hl=nl&fs=true" style="width:400px;height:326px" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"> </embed>

Test.

OK, that is not working. The panel on the right (beneath the smilies) says that [flash] is OFF. Can't we use flash?
Or does the code work?

[flash]<embed id="VideoPlayback" src="http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docid=1086064787635235834&hl=nl&fs=true" style="width:400px;height:326px" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"> </embed>[/flash]

So that doesn't work either. Joe, do you prefer that we link to video's of bat houses, instead of embedding flash in a post?

For those who are curious: the video I tried to embed is a interview (in Dutch) about my bat work. So that's me.

EDITED BY JOE with inline video after changing google-video code internally. Since this video code is a modification indeed Erik it is probably a good Idea to always post the direct link/URL to the videos in the future as well within the post.

I have added the code and buttons for You-tube and Google-video. Below is my first test using the You-tube video button. I shot this video of white-tail deer with my camera in movie mode showing my back yard last winter with shot taken through my upper window. Google button is not yet working correctly so i WILL NEED TO WORK ON THAT. Youtube does work though.

Success! There is no embedding or long code. You just paste the URL of the video from youtube and google. Very easily done now! If someone would like to test Google with the new google button great! Erik aren't you a google video user? Cya and let me know if there are any problems.

Hi Joe,

I have tried it, but without success. The Google video's I posted earlier are still working though, so it must be possible.

Test two to understand the working of video-embedding in the new forum/

You Tube embedding is indeed simple. It is not my video though, but that of a "bat house" friend of mine.

Joe, I don't know what you need to do to make the Google-video button work? But maybe taking a look at the embedded code it my earlier Google Video posts is helpful? For example: this video

Yes, I noticed that your google videos were working. I posted elsewhere in the forum and in the Image uploading and help area to inform that I don't have the google button with the correct code yet but yes thanks I am optimistic I will get it working in the near future. Thank you Erik...

New google video test:

Success! However I noticed that it worked for only the video with =en not =nl like some of your past videos Erik. Give it a try and even upload a new video and try that one as well with the new code and see how it works. If all else fails I can set it up so you just paste the 19 character video number between the tags. We'll get it right eventually for google video.

Hmm mine says flash is on! Strange indeed. go into your user control panel:

User Control Panel > Board Preferences > Edit display options and see if flash button is on for you. It should be.

Let's try again....

[Google-video]http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docid=3118559128405133992&hl=nl&fs=true[/Google-video]

1....2....3....Submit!

Mmm, what am I doing wrong ???? Is it the =nl bit that is making it not work??? :?: Should I move to the USA?

And there's is something else strange. In my Control Panel Display Flah Animation is ON, but in the editing-mode it says [flash] is OFF.
I tried it with Firefox and IE but without result.

But I'll be patient. I am sure Joe wil make it work!

Erik here is the difference between our URL's the one below from me works. Notice the differences like videoplay?docid? vs googleplayer.swf for yours. I got my URL from my google video account with my videos there and cut n pasted the URL between the tags:

Joe URL http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 2496&hl=en

Erik URL http://video.google.com/googleplayer.sw ... nl&fs=true

I think I will try some other code which will change from using full URL's to only the video # I believe that will work although instead of selecting all (URL) at google video people with have to just select and copy/paste the 19 character video ID. I will put that code in now and try your video number from above.

Posting Eriks video using his 19 character video code

Postby Joe Spencer » Sun Nov 30, 2008 9:02 pm

I have changed the code to use the 19 character google video ID#. Erik I am using your video from above using your 19 character video ID only between the Google-video tags. Immediately below is the google video ID# I retrieved from your post above. After that is the video. HERE GOES:

3118559128405133992

OK that was a success. I guess for now this is how we will have to post google videos until a full URL or flash method is available. Indeed the latter is why the other imported google videos you had worked. Erik if you supply me link to one of your other older google videos here on this forum I will take a look at the embed code if possible and try that too just for curiosity. Either way at least this works for now however I would encourage people to post the direct link to their video as well since and update to the software could potentially wipe out this modification code I have put in and the direct link/URL would serve as a backup.

Test of flash by joe with Erik's video with google (flash) url

Ok this worked but Erik after I hit the Flash button and entered it, it would not work unless I added the =320,256 within the first flash tag which is what I found in your original post of this video using the flash player. Unfortunately I can't modify the flash button since it is the original code which is hidden and the you-tube and google buttons are added code which I added and I can modify. I'm really not sure why it is fussy with the Flash button needing to specify the size but maybe that is why it worked in your older videos. Who knows. I think You-tube inline videos may be our best bet for consistency. At least that works consistently.

Testing again

....nope. I guess it can work when I use the Flash button as mentioned in the earlier post. But [flash] is OFF and I can 't turn it on?

I'll keep trying until Saint Juttemis (and that's a mighty long time here in Dutch)
