Very small accidental bathouse...

Postby Erik » Fri Mar 18, 2011 8:18 am

Last week, a colleague and I went out to install an Anabat-device on a building, to monitor a possible roost of Pipistrelles or Serotines. The home owner allowed us to use an external connection point (socket) to get the power for the Anabat.
But when I opened the plastic box there was already a female Pipistrelle roosting in it. We removed the bat, connected the Anabat and applied additinial isolation tape. Then we closed the box and we let the bat crawl back inside. And that was all fine.
It was such a surprising discovery that I kept a big smile on my face for the rest of the evening...

In the photo at the top you can see a hole in the bottom of the box, with a cut off coaxial cable peeking out.
That hole is the roost entrance.
