tip: keeping bats out of the garage

I've only had a bat inside the garage once so far. The coffee can and thin cardboard method worked well for removal.
My theory is that since bugs are attracted to the car's headlights, a bat must have been following and flew into the garage.
Since then, I've been turning my headlights off prior to entering the garage.

Yes, that technique works well. I use clear plastic containers so I can see the bat when I put the cardboard or thin plywood beneath it. Is it possible the bat got in without an open door and was potentially using the garage as a roost or temporary digestive roost?
