This a good location?

We live in Carlsbad, NM and are interested in installing a multi-chamber bat house to draw some Brazilian Free-Tails away from the famous colony out at the Caverns . How would this location on the east side of our house work?

It should get a good amount of sun being on the south side of the chimney, and the guano shouldn't be visible on the ledge underneath. Any problems with this spot?

Looks fine. Any guano that accumulates could be scraped off the ledge into a bucket for any plants or flowers you may have. Given your location paint your bat house accordingly which is a lighter shade in your area. I went to carlsbard caverns as a boy for the tour but could not stay of the exodus. Good luck and welcome to the forum!

We went to Carlsbad 2 years ago, and got to stay for the emergence of the bats. It wasn't as impressive as Bracken Cave, but it was wonderful to watch. I found it interesting how many people, especially children, were fascinated by the bat activity.

If your house attacts a couple hundred bats from Carlsbad, they won't miss them....

We stayed in a motel on the north side of Carlsbad, and we saw bats flying under the street lights on both evenings we were there. Lots of bats in that area. Good luck with your new house!
