Shot pix, Had bats-didn't come out? Too Cool?

Postby Emersombiguns » Wed Mar 16, 2011 12:53 am

I went out tonight and only had 1 bat fly out at dusk. Later I went out with camera and took a flash shot from underneath. To my amazement there were quite a few in the back chamber which is not facing south. I went out at 8:30pm and looks like all were still in there. I did notice one flying in when about to shoot. It was 58F here then. Randy Haughton,La

I've observed that my big browns will stay in the back crevice more so in cooler weather...........In cooler weather with no insects/food flying around they like to roost where it is cooler so they can remain in torpor and not burn too many calories.........Once it warms up enough that there are more insects flying, they move to other boxes that get more sun exposure.......

Terry,
Interesting observance-it makes sense. I sure need to get my infared camera hooked up on a timer with the freq conversion rcver. That thing is really neat. You can point at the house and if within 30' I can hear them give a "click" or two before they fly out. Some never much echolocation, other really do..It makes watching them come out that much more fun..I got mine from guy in Las Vegas and built it in kit form..
I will keep in touch to see how your house's are doing/influx into them. Thanks for reply..Randy

Yup, Terry spot on with this. If the temps have already increased since your initial post maybe you've noticed some moving and more emergence? Good luck...
