Roto molded bat houses

I has competition.

Yesterday evening I found an odd yet interesting link posted over in the bat sub-forum of Cave Chat. Vermont public radio interviewed two bat biologists and put the audio up for a free listen. Kind of long (first 38 minutes of the 46) but worth while if you can spare the time.http://www.vpr.net/episode/52805/white- ... elopments/

One thing that caught my ear last night was mention of a research project that involves large concrete bat houses which can be cleaned to (hopefully) help slow the spread of White Nosed Syndrome. The biologist referred to them as a "bat bunker"... Used this as a search term this morning and (after wading through the false hits on Batman's secret lair) much to my surprise I found a roto molder introducing a new plastic bat house, instead of the research project I was expecting.

Certainly legitimizes me! Was starting to think I was a lunatic rather than a visionary. Or perhaps I still am and they are total idiots for fighting me over this tiny niche market. They certainly appear to have spent a ton more money than I have.

May have to be a bit more closed mouth about my plans from now on. Their emphasis on the word "commercial" plus a few other things mentioned (or not mentioned as the case may be) leads me to believe they are aware I exist.

William, do you have a patent on your design? I think you have a great thing going there with your design........having experimented building all kinds of bat houses over the years, I can appreciate the expense of building them with wood.......other methods that are constructed to meet the needs of the bats and withstand the weather are definitely worth pursuing.......if you think it is a tiny niche market now, 12 years ago it seemed non-existent........to me it appears to have exploded..........I have people wanting bat houses from me all the time!

Terry, thanks for the encouragement! No, no patents at all. They are
actually uncommon in this industry, even my former employer with a
multitude of products spanning decades only had two patents. Would not
stop anyone from making a plastic bathouse anyway. All it would do is
cost me money and give me a slightly higher chance of winning (after
spending lots more money) if / when someone made one with exactly the
same features that are covered by the patent.

Funny that the bat house they are planing is going to be closer to what
I envisioned a year and a half ago here,
intro-and-few-questions-t893.html#p4664
Than what mine ended up being. Both designs have advantages and
disadvantages. Likely that one will be better in some climates which
means it will be worse in the others... Stay tuned!

Can I contact you in private?
