Bat Houses Bat House Discussion!

The rocket house had 308 bats tonight. I knew it was big based on the guano and swarm that was around this morning when I went for paper. My guess is that they left around 1st of august because it was too hot and came back with the torrential rains from TS Fay because it was dry and warm.

Bats are back in rocket, counted over 220 last night. The weather is cooling so guess they like the warmth of the house compared to the I-95 bridge where I think they go when it gets too hot in the house.

Putting up another house this afternoon. It is 4 chambers, 24 inches wide and about 36 inches tall. It is the first time I used the pet screen for grabbing surface. Also built in a spot for my bat cam in case I get pups nest summer. Hope the bats remain in the houses this winter.

The rocket had between 400 and 500 night before last to the best estimate I could make. The were dropping out of all 4 sides at once in batches of 20-30. I certainly could not get a good count based on the rate they were egressing.  It was back in the 220 range tonight.

The temp should drop into the 40's here tonight, so would expect more either tonight or tomorrow.

Put the new house up today. Will be interesting to see if it it occupied soon or they prefer to crowd into the rocket to keep warm.
