Replacing shutters with bats roosting behind

Postby MikeS » Fri Dec 02, 2011 9:27 pm

Hello!
On the south side of my house I have 6 shutters that need to be replaced. I've been reluctant to do this because I believe bats roost behind some of the shutters. I see some black feces caught in cobwebs below the shutters and have seen bat activity in the summer. What's the best way to limit my impact on the bats? Do they roost here year round? (Suburban Philadelphia) Is there a best time of year to do this? I don't want to displace the bats if possible.

Now would be a good time........little browns are gone (hibernating) and big browns are most likely hibernating in local attics. Even though big browns occasionally come out for a drink here in the Northeast, I doubt very much they would be roosting behind a shutter this time of year.......

Thank you Terry, this is what I'd hoped but I didn't want to disturb or endanger them. We've become quite attached to our "shutter bats" over the years.
