relocated bat houses are being used

Postby cloudman75 » Fri Jul 23, 2010 12:44 am

This winter I relocated my two existing bat houses further into my back yard and away from my deck about 40 ft.
They are still being used by about 200 bats total. A number moved out of the large house into the smaller 3 chamber
cedar house. These photos are not very good but you can see that the houses are full of bats. These are mostly little browns with a few freetails I could identify. These photos were taken 07/22/2010. Temperature today in the 90s.
The 5 chamber is a light blue color, the 3 chamber is unpainted cedar, a store bought OBC house.

Wow, nice pictures Frank! I'm having a hard time getting accurate counts up here because the the maternity colonies seem to be dispersing earlier than other years.

Wow that second photos is amazing - wall-to-wall bat faces! You cannot even see the baffles.

Dave,
They are hanging on the bottom of the baffles to get some air and relief from the heat. The house has screening so they have good footing. They are flying pups that were raised in the house I think.

I was amazed on the pictures, great pictures, indeed! Do you treat them as your pets? Bats are very lucky that you have provided them houses.

I just try to give them support with housing and take photos. They are amazing to observe and have a mind of their own.
I am building two more houses to give them some more space.
