Question about bat house location

Postby smh » Sat Apr 24, 2010 4:38 pm

I have a 7 chamber steel bat house. I live in Connecticut on a marsh frequented by bats. There are 2 possible locations.

There is a hill behind my house. I can see them coming out of the trees at dusk to fly over the marsh. I had wanted to place it at the waters edge. This faces west south west and I was told that the house had to have an east view, but the hill I mentioned blocks the east. The other location would be on the top of the hill. There are trees around but it would have east and south sun. This is not an area without trees however, but it is somewhat clear of trees (not a deep forest, mostly saplings) but there would be east and south sun since it would be at the top. Since I see them fly out of these woods, they must be living there.

Would either of these sites work?

Thanks

I have to agree on the most sun, my house in La faces south to southeast. I have trees 20' away but no low limbs. They found it in 2 yrs, and had 120 in a 2*2' house 2 weeks ago. In your area I would paint it black-nothing else. Mine is and they don't get too hot..Randy Haughton,La
