Possible to mount Bat House in Staten Island, NY?

Postby polskifil » Wed Jun 22, 2011 11:15 am

Hey Guys,

So i was thinking about buying and putting up a bat house in my yard to help keep down the mosquito's and to just enjoy them.
First i want to know if it would be even possible to attract any in the area i live and what i should do to make that happen. I read some basics such as painting the house black, keeping it on a pole 15" in the air, and to face it south with at least 8 hours of sunlight. Any help would be appreciated from you guys as i would love to have these little critters flying around

P.S. - This is the house im planning on ordering http://www.amazon.com/Looker-OBC-Bat-Triple-Chamber-House/dp/B000FLTO6A/ref=sr_1_3?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1308754671&sr=1-3)

Thanks
Fil

Fil, I have the same house, bought it a few months ago.
I also got the next size bigger that they offer, a few weeks later.
Beautiful workmanship

Thanks for the reply Markcuda! Would you have any idea if my area is suitable for a bat-house?

I couldn't really figure out the picture that you posted
I don't think there are any places that are not suitable for a bat house.
They like water, with in a 1/4 to a 1/2 a mile.
6 to 8 hours of morning sun light.
