Such a good picture of the bats and how it shows the construction of the bat box......the mesh and how the baffles are fitted into the box are easily visible......

Hi this is Randy In NW La. I have not had any return since last summer. It has been very dry in La..No water nearby and I wonder if that is why mine left ..Where are u? That is a great shot. Glad you put up some more housing. I may try some guanno in plastic bowl underneath my house around 5'. It is 70F here so may have some move in. However expecting to be 35 Fri...La weather!!!!

Hi Randy, Frank here K4RVN in Lithia Springs, GA-metro Atlanta. I don't have all the answers as to why your bats left, but after looking at your almost black house in La, I think they got too hot. Also I took a good look at them and you had quite a few freetails. They move quite a bit. Mine go and come but always come back in warm weather. I have some here now that don't want to go yet as it was about 75 here today and in the 40s at night.
I would suggest that you put up a lighter colored or unpainted house this winter right away so the bats can look it over. Also they sometimes leave when the bat bugs get too thick in the house. At least mine do.
