Looking to buy bat house plans

Postby mikem80 » Fri Mar 13, 2009 8:26 am

Hi everyone so glad I found this place :)

Myself, and 4 of my neighbors are going to be having a friendly competition this spring. Each of us is going to be building our own bat house, and setting them up in our back yards. Each of us have about 1+ acres of land. Anyway, we would like to have 5 different professionally drawn bat house plans done for us. I know we can look around the internet and print out some free ones, but we'd much rather have some custom plans drawn up for us.

We have money in hand, and can pay someone through paypal, or any form of payment the designer is comfortable with. If you can do this, or you know of someone who can please reply to this post, or send me a PM.

Thanks!
Mike

I have several FREE designs that are drawn to scale on the forum here, and they can be modified or expanded to suit your needs. I am not sure you could call them "professional" but they have a 90% success rate when hung properly and in a good location.
Having a location that is within 1/4 mile of a river or stream at least 10 feet wide or pond larger than 1/4 acre will have the highest chance for success.
The sky is the limit for bat house designs, just remember to keep all crevices no bigger than 1" and preferably in the 3/4-7/8" range. The bat house should be painted a dark color if you live in the Northern half of the US. Typically dark brown works great, but you can experiment with dark greens, reds, or blues if you wanted it to stand out.

I will try to post links to my designs here when I get the chance, and there is no fee involved for using them.

Here's two links that show the diagrams for cutting the plywood.

You're welcome to use the bat house I designed, though it is definitely not the simplest design. But still it was a lot of fun to build, and was occupied within a month of placement.

Be sure to follow the flickr link in the first post to see construction photos.

I have no ambitions of being a professional bat house designer so if you want a bigger image or the Visio file, let me know.

Here in the Pacific NW our bats seem to have a preference for slanted partitions, so they can squeeze in really tight sometimes. Not sure why.

Here is a link to pictures of a very inexpensive and easy to make bat house that was used by my big brown bat maternity colony the very first year it was put up. As far as plans, the pictures pretty much show all you need to know.........the post is 2 - 2"X4"s nailed together (full 2" by 4" rough cut) The rest of it just sandwiches over the post. This was the box where my big brown bat mothers had their pups roosting when the pups took their first flight on July 15th. You may use these pictures as you wish, no charge......good luck!
