Guess what was behind the plywood covering the window of this garage?

At first I thought around 30.............but after counting them, there are around 60 little browns here. They were moving around, stretching their wings and grooming so it was difficult to get an absolute count, but I know for sure they numbered at least in the high 50's. This is the same garage/shed shown in my other post on Oil Creek State Park.

The bats did not seem to mind us looking at them even while shining the light. It was kind of a neat way to show visitors a close up view of little brown bats! I still need to practice with my camera........I think maybe later on I will try to get some better pictures.

Wauw Terry,

what a cool discovery! I once thought of building a bat house with a Plexiglas sidepanel to have occasional peek in the bat house, It would be covered by a wooden panel to keep it dark.
Your pictures inspire this idea again.

Perhaps the location is also suitable for a bat (web)cam? I have thought of bat (web)cams in bat houses but the narrow chambers and continuous rain of droppings make it hard to make good pictures. Do you know of any good online bat house cams?

Erik, there have been some posts on here about bat cams............I forget who posted them........Have you watched any of the bat cam action from Canoe Creek State Park?

Terry, no I haven't seen that bat cam. I have just looked it up on the internet but the most links I found where out of use of showed a black screen. I will try again later.

On a website about the Canoe Creek State Park I saw big Limestone Kilns. Are those also hibernation roosts for bats? Hibernation in cracks and pipes in the ceiling of a kiln?
Just curious, we always find bats hibernating in old Kilns.
