Bat Houses Bat House Discussion!

links for bat house purchase

A friend suggested bat houses for my backyard to eliminate some of the mosquitoes. Having enjoyed seeing bats in my childhood and having a couple of bats that visit every year, I was so very pleased with this suggestion. I began a search online and was inundated with choices as you well know can be the result of a search. So I thought I'd come straight to a source that could lead me to direct, quality and reasonably priced bat houses. You, fortunate people, are that source! Where in the Seattle/Tacoma are can I find bat houses, or where can I mail order through a reliable source?

Welcome Sherry! This is a link to BCI's bat approved bat houses which is similar to the designation thatAudubon puts on bird houses they recommend: http://www.batcon.org/index.php/get-inv ... el-db.html

There is a bat conservation organization in Seattle called Bats Northwest which sells a "Rocket Box" style house: http://www.batsnorthwest.org/temporaryship.html

No matter where you get the house, you should make sure that it meets these criteria: http://www.batcon.org/index.php/get-inv ... house.html

Thanks for the info Dave and Joe. And a side note, I have both an uncle and a cousin with the name Joe Spencer. What a coincidence!

The world can't be too safe having that many Joe Spencer's running around, can it?

Welcome aboard, Sherry! It is always good having new bat enthusiasts around. The BCI site not only has good references for vendors of approved bat houses, but it has a wealth of information that I used when I first got interested in bats.
