I finally got to observe last night and I had about 170 total come out of my 2 houses. They seemed to have moved to the taller house. (30"). I believe due to the 106F temps in last couple of weeks in NW La. When they did come out (7:50pm)- I was about 10' back and under the houses against my back fence in one of the 2 chairs. Half way thru the exit, I must of had 20 at one time flying all around the house's, going back in and out. Then one would fly overhead coming from the yard behind me, or in front within 4'..I had my bat receiver on, and it was pure static from al the echo-location going on. Had I not been out there many times it would have been downright scary! Weather just cooled down, but no rain-just forest fires starting 30 miles away in E. Texas...Randy

My Little Browns moved into the hotter house with no ventilation. We have had cooler temps with lows at night in the 50s. I noticed a big pile of guano under the different house after returning from Branson, Mo. to my Navy ship reunion last night. I went out tonight and took a count, still have about 60 bats.
Lower number than my usual 200. The bats did not appreciate all the changes I made this winter. Your houses look great.

Thanks Frank. We finally got a break in the temp, and just a little rain this week. Not enough to fill any lakes up or stop the water rationing to not take place. They seem to be coming out in a big hurry now around 7:20pm..Basically pouring out...I can't go anywhere in the backyard without hearing them in there during day...Luckily, we have a sewer treatment pond about 1/2 mile away and I think I seem many heading that direction. I would love to know how far they fly during the night..73 Randy

I took photos last night Oct 3,2011 and have about 60 little browns plus about a dozen freetails that I could see. The usual routine here is for the L.B.s to hibernate after the first frost which would normally be around Nov. or last of this month. Then the freetails leave but may spend a few nights here even in Jan or Feb during brief warm periods that we sometimes get here.
I also have 3 very tiny bats that I have never identified that have been around several years from time to time.
