How long will bats stay in one place?

Postby JeremyTaylor » Mon Aug 16, 2010 2:00 am

Some bats have moved in to my house in the last couple of weeks - they live under the awning (I noticed the mouse-like droppings and have seen then flying around). I am in the middle of having repair work done on the house and that will include putting wood strips under the awnings - which would block access to the little hole through which the bats have been crawling. How long do bats hang out in one home? I hope that they will get bored and move on to somewhere else fairly soon. I have no intention of getting rid of them but would like to know that they will leave after a while.
Thanks
Jeremy

What area of the country do you live in? If you have never seen bats in this location of the awning, they very well could be baby bats that have just learned to fly...as they tend to end up in places where people have never noticed them before. If you live in the Northern half of the U.S., they will probably start flying to their hibernation spots by the first week of October.
