20 ft hollow pole

Postby cloudman75 » Thu Oct 21, 2010 4:56 pm

This is a modified pole from a design by Terry Lobdell. I put my 2 by stuff at the bottom instead of the top like Terry. I also made it from lighter stuff which has yet to be tested. Here it is ready for some surplus white paint I need to use. I'll get it done by the time the bats leave in Nov. I plan to attach two or three houses to this one. This one will pivot at ground level on an existing Channel so that It can be raised and lowered if necessary. This winter will be the test for it. If it survives until spring, I will have confidence in it.

After I painted it white, I decided it may be too much glare for the bats so I will spray a little green over the white.Image

It is 20 ft and 7 inches from end to end. None of it will be buried. I am just waiting for my bats to leave so I can use the channel that their
existing house is mounted on.

Frank, I must have been in lala land as I just realized you had the length right in the title of your post! I usually make my hollow poles about 18 feet long but the little browns and big browns we have up here don't require the height that freetails do.....
