Guano

Postby GFox » Sat Apr 04, 2009 7:55 pm

I put my first bat house up last fall. I have seen a few droppings under it during warm spells. They are not the typical bird splatter but have been white in color and mouse-like in shape. They are only directly under the house. Can bat guano be white? I've only seen dark (like mouse droppings) in pictures on the internet. It's too dark in there to see any bats. Thanks.

Hello,
I kept waiting to see if some of the more learned batters would reply and they haven't yet. I'll give you my two cents worth
so you will have a quick reply. I don't believe the white droppings are from bats. I would shine a light into the house around midnight if possible to see what if anything is in the bat house. All my bat droppings have been black or nearly so.

Yeah, I should've jumped on this post yesterday. Bat guano is brown or black. A photo of the suspected feces might be in order. I can't rule out some type of frog, but the toads in my garden usually have dark darker feces as well. There are some large insects that can make some different colored droppings so perhaps a moth or beetle is using the house as a night roost.
