Getting Ready

Postby cloudman75 » Thu Oct 28, 2010 4:29 pm

I mounted the new 32 inch by 16 inch 3 chamber bat house on the hollow pole today. It has a 3/4 inch ventilation gap on the front and also one on the back. These can be used by the bats for ingress or egress if they desire. Also if they get too hot it will provide a lot of room at the outside air source.
As soon as my bats leave, I plan to mount the existing 3 chamber on this hollow pole and maybe another house about its' size to be used as a maternity house. I have already made the mount for three houses. I have given thought to insulating one, but from what I have read insulated houses with data posted are no more successful than tightly built houses with a good sun exposure.
I still may build one as I have the materials on hand including some insulation, and I am curious to see what the bats think.

Looks good Frank! I've found the dimensions of 16x32 to be a really good size for a bat house......big enough hold a lot of bats and have good temperature variation yet not so big that it is too cumbersome to mount....
