Terry, you asked what I was just thinking about the big brown. On the extreme left appears to be a little brown with a big brown next to the freetails. I have seen on exit what I thought were several big browns flying out. I installed the roof on my 2011 bat house today. I used a cedar board and a larger thin plywood roof over that which I am painting white.
There is a half inch slot where the roof meets the house front and also one at the back about 1/4 inch. The baffles stop about 1 inch down from the roof so the bats can travel back and forth if they want. Also I cut openings about 1/2 way down in the baffles so they can pass through. I am also painting the sides white to protect the white wood I used from rot. I have some white sealer left from a previous project that I will be using. I also have flat white barn paint left from my storage building. This is an experiment I wanted to make with a warm sealed chamber and two greatly ventilated chambers.
I want to get this one up soon so the bats can look it over before they leave around Nov usually. Thanks for the comment on the photos, I am doing better with practice.
