Freetail hibernating in Georgia?

Postby cloudman75 » Sun Feb 07, 2010 7:12 pm

We took my big 5 chamber house down today and it had a hard landing. When I unbolted it from the 20 ft pipe, a small bat was on the ground. I believe it is a freetail which should not be hibernating from what I have read. It is a very small bat with big ears. It is less than 3 inches in length. I put it in a safe place in case it survived the bump. I will be checking on it.
The 5 chamber will be relocated if all goes well. It is quite heavy. My bats will be coming back beginning about the 3rd week of next month.

The little bat I found is still soft not stiff after a couple of days so may be alive in hibernation. I have it in a protected place with a small container of water close by just in case it wakes. Anyone care to identify what species they think this is?
