Hello Everyone,
I can't wait to put up my first two bat houses ever! I found a couple of cheap bat houses at a Meijer and needless to say they were not designed very well. but after some modifications (vent slots, landing pad, caulking leaky seams, painting, shingling, texturing the inside) and since I plan on mounting two back to back on a wooden 4x4 and about 13 ft. off the ground, I think it should be successful.
Like I said this is my first bat house but I have worked with bats in the past. I am a biologist and have worked with bat surveys for years. I've really only worked with northern species (red, little and big brown, hoary, evening, silver haired, pipestrelles, northern, gray, and indiana). Not so much anymore since moving back to Ohio, but I just bought a house and can't wait to see what species I can get. My house is located about 200 ft. from a stream with a wooded riparian zone and a pasture next to it. I think my house is in ideal habitat, so I'm anxious to say the least.
At any rate, I am also new to the forum. Glad to see there are so many bat enthusiasts out there. Keep up the good work!
Jeff
