December bats

Postby Erik » Fri Dec 31, 2010 6:23 am

Hello there. Long time no message from me, but I am still busy on the bat-house-front.
In previous winters we often had Noctules Nyctalus noctula in this bat house, but only until the first frost. They left the bat house when it got too cold.
This picture was made after a month of cold weather with snow and frost every day. There were at least five Noctules still present in the bat house. I hope they are OK and are not suffering from frostbite. The bat house gives little protection against frost.

Greetings and all the best for 2011!

Agree with Terry on both items. Brings up a question though, is BCI truly international? What leads me to ask is that the certified vendor list is very US centric with 32 of the 34 in the United States plus two in Canada. No certified vendors any where else in the world?

It is possibly to set up websites that do this automatically based on IP address. We can not see their list and they can see ours... Thought I would just ask here rather than spend a bunch of time searching.
Happiness is a full bat house!
