I live in South Mississippi.  Yesterday I found a dead bat on my patio, today my husband found a dead bat in his shoe in our closet.  Any idea what type of bats they might be and what might be killing them?  We moved into our house 1 1/2 years ago after it had been empty for over a year.  We found a bat in the curtains and put it outside.  We hadn't seen any more until yesterday.  They are small, about the size of a small mouse; lots of sharp teeth!  I'm glad they are around to eat mosquitos but I'm scared of them being in my house!

Thanks.

They're likely big brown bats or little brown bats.  The former frequently chooses to roost in building aka common house bat.  If you can photograph one and their droppings with a pencil beside it for reference, we can assist with species determination.  You may have a colony living in the house.  Do you have an unfinished attic or crawl space?  If you do and have not already done it, inspect it for droppings and a potential colony.  We'll await further feedback from you to assist further.
