Bats still here after Thanksgiving

Postby cloudman75 » Mon Nov 29, 2010 1:51 am

I checked tonight and have 7 bats in one house and two in another. The seven appear as if they want to stay here this winter as they don't exit as far as I know. The other two appear to be big browns in the winter house with no ventilation openings. They are in different chambers, not together. We are expecting weather below freezing this week so maybe the little browns will leave so I can take their house down and get my new ones up on the hollow pole. Anyone else still have bats? The large new three chamber I put up on the old radio tower has not had any bats to take up residence.
I do see a wasp or some insect in there that has eyes that reflect when I shine a light on them.

I checked my boxes a couple nights ago and there was nothing.......I'm going to go out in early December and check......the latest I've had big browns roosting is Nov. 28th. I suspect if we get some mild weather in Dec. I will find a couple roosting in my boxes......

Thanks for reply Terry.
We have freezing temp. forecast for tonight at 28 degrees. I checked after dark, still have 5 LBs in the three chamber,
One BB in the winter house. I hope they leave after tonight so I can get the new houses up. Dec 1 is a new record for the houses to be used I think. But they usually wait until a good frost which usually happens here in late Nov.
