Terry, I put two vents in front and back on my summer house all the way across about 3/4 inches wide. The bats can enter there if they want. In addition the roof is suspended above the front and back to give a crack across the house for air to escape This will provide a chimney effect and a breeze when it gets hot. The roof was made really large to shield the house from sun and sides and roof painted white. We will see how it does in hot weather. I have only one little bat using it so far.
Here is a photo of my ventilated roof which I have not seen anyone else do on the forum. You can see the daylight at the top under the roof. This is an experiment and I can always modify the house if I get no tennants.
