bats are gone!!!!!!!

Postby valiant » Tue Jul 19, 2011 5:48 pm

I guess the bats are just useing my bat house for a brooding house. I live in middle Ga.[crawford co.] & assume I have "little browns".The came back in May as they did last year. They had pups, raised them & now they are gone!! Two weeks ago I counted 175 on a exit count!! Last week it looked like a swarm of bees coming back at 6:10 in the morning. Now there are no bats at all!!! I was thinking about building another house to accomadate all the bats but now I guess their is no need. Does anyone know whats going on here?. I have a friend that lives about 10 miles from me that has bats in his house year round. That is what I would like. Any help???????

I am in Douglas County adjacent to Fulton and Cobb. What color is your bat house? The bats may have gotten too hot. About 2/3 of my Little Browns have
gone. In April, I had about 200 bats here adults. Now I have 68 total of which about 50 are this years flying pups. I belive that my bats have gone to a cooler roost probably in their cave in Bartow county. I have often had all the bats to leave in July and then come back after a few weeks and stay until Nov. and first frost. After several years, I have never had them stay the entire summer without leaving and then coming back. I have no real facts to explain where they go but have posted on this forum in the past about them leaving. If you have a dark colored house they may have left because of the heat. They do breed and swarm about this time so that could be it in your warmer climate. Keep us posted as I would sure like to know if your bats return later. I'll post if mine show up again.
