The new 3 chamber 30 inch high and 16 inch wide house under constuction looks small compared to the completed house. Another hour or so and this one will be complete. I need a front, back and roof. I also will drill the baffles for lateral movement although I left space at the top. The weather has warmed here, and a few bats have returned tonight. Little browns and some freetails.
Update 10/08/2010. I finished the back and came up one cedar board short to complete the roof.I'll go to home depot, my source for cedar, next week and buy another couple of boards. I used no calking on this house as an experiment to see if the little browns, etc. in my area would use it for a maternity colony. I also put extra ventilation in the front and one 1/2 inch slot all the way across the back. I used no ceiling in this house under the roof.
It has been my experience that bats in my area get too hot for several months. I will see what happens next year and adjust if needed. Both my latest houses can be taken apart as all screws were used and little calking. I'll rebuild them tighter if required.I still have one tight unventilated house for early arrivals and a few winter visitors.
