Bat on December 9.

Postby cloudman75 » Wed Dec 09, 2009 10:54 pm

It was 68 here today, and tonight I had one visitor in the bat house which is unvented and on a metal pole. I think it is a big brown because it is a large bat. It is out of focus but you can possibly make it out.

The forecast is for a low of 26 tonight. The bat was still there at 8PM tonight. I plan to go into the attic and check the west facing louver tomorrow. I usually have a small bat that spends most of the winter with me in the bottom of the louver lying
horizontal, not hanging on the wire. Thanks for comment Terry. The baffles in the unvented house with the big brown are removable as a unit by taking out screws. I plan to mount the house on my mounting board house the first year, then remove the baffles and mount them inside the large house for the scent. I am hoping this will make my existing colonies use the newer house. I am still thinking, don't plan to build anything until after New Years day. I dread scoring the baffles more than anything. I can't seem to find any way to eliminate the labor. I don't plan to use screening. If I decide on soft whitewood boards for the baffles, I will go ahead and start scratching them so I'll have that behind me in January.
