Bat Cave?

Bat Houses Bat House Discussion!

Hi, I have some questions about these formations we found above our front door.  Here are some pictures:

My questions are:

1) Are these bat caves?

2) If these were made by the bats, does anyone know how they make them, or what they make them out of?

3) I've seen a bat on the wall next to one of these, and the bat seemed too big to get inside.  I know they can fit in tight spaces, but are they really able to cram in and stay in there?  Or would only babies be in there?

4) These are right above my front door, and I can't have my kids stepping in bat poop every time they go outside.  Is there a way to relocate them?  Or should I just put up mesh when they are out and then let them figure out where to move to?

Thanks!

Those are mud dauber wasp nests...they are a black wasp that is generally non-aggressive and has a weak sting. The nests are formed by wasps collecting mud and forming those tubular nests.

And I can definately see the bat guano in the corner, it looks to be a regularly used roost by both bats and wasps. I would try putting up a bat house in a location close to the house. What state are you in and how high off the ground is the bat guano and wasp nests?
