Bat Cam ideas

Postby brian.hoard » Tue Oct 13, 2009 11:42 am

Hi,
I have just installed my first bat house and am researching the best way to put a camera in it.
My first thought is to somehow mount a permanent wireless internet camera inside the house. I believe it would need a rechargeable battery pack, which I'd like to recharge with a solar panel.

Does anyone have any advice or experience with this?

This is the bat house I have...

Hi Brian and Welcome! It sounds like a great idea however I have yet to do it. Erik Korsten a forum member may be invaluable in helping in this regard. I suggest you email him and Private message him via the forum and he may be able to help until another poster can. Additionally, the OBC bat house is a fine house but the design in your photo has an inherent problem. They do not notch the backboard allowing the roof to recess within it preventing water infiltration. No biggie and maybe you already considered it, just caulk the seam where they meet and then paint it and you're all set! Cheers Joe

Thanks Joe.
I'll have to get up there and caulk it. It is under the home overhang, so I don't expect it to get too much water there. The reason I installed it here is the bedroom window next to this is already getting a bat squeezing in between the window and screen and sleeping during the day. My wife named him Squeegy.

That sounds great. Good chance of bat relocating to the bat house. Good luck....

I purchased a small 2.4 ghz wireless IR camera with sound on Ebay. It comes with nice receiver with audio. It runs off 9v battery and good for around 100'. I have set mine up with my bat receiver and can see better at dusk than with my naked eye. As far as in the house, I would try in the top with a small hole and camera on the outside with easy access to remove it"carefully" if your house is occupied. I work as electronics tech for rr, and do ham radio. Let me know if you get yours going. Randy In Haughton, la
