1st Rescued Pup

Postby Emersombiguns » Sat May 14, 2011 7:47 pm

Well , I found this one on ground today. Eyes not open, and no hair on abdomen, but wings about full size. Would guess week or so old. Was able to put it on long perch pole with Kleenex on end and "insert" it back up into a slat. It jumped off and held on..Will see if it stays in there...Randy

Great thinking Randy and a good job you did.
I just got back Thursday night from two weeks at the beach on R&R. I did an exit count tonight, only 92 bats total.
I have lost around 70 bats the last two weeks. Most left my little OBC three chamber as only three flew out of that one. After exit, I checked each bat house and no pups yet. I think some bats are pretty pregnant and heavy as they went almost to the ground before pulling up. I should have some pups in a week or so. I usually write down my first pup sightings each year and save the info. Most of the bats that departed are freetails as I did not see any fly out tonight. 94 bats are ganged up in an unventilated house that I built a few years ago. Three houses are empty right now. My largest new house has one tiny bat that flew out tonight.
Two new houses are empty plus one large 5 chamber next to a tree is also empty. You batters with unused new houses, don't give up, I think my houses will be used when it gets hot in the mid 90s. The old one at the tree may not. I may have to put it on a pole away from the tree next year.
