Last fall I lowered my back to back bat houses so the strong winds would not loosen the concrete base. Needless to have the housing blowing in the wind over hibernation time. Tonight I decided to look into the houses just for a check and there is 1 Big Brown Bat in one of the houses. The bottom of the house is presently only 6 feet above the ground. I'll check in a couple hours to see if the Big Brown exits and then winch the housing up to its 15 feet elevation and if not wait until an evening that it does exit before I raise the house. The low elevation didn't seem to bother it so far and I know that they will stay in ground level wood piles at times so I am not at all concerned. This was a St Patricks Day suprise for me here in central Illinois. Keep an eye out for your returning Bats. Happy Batting--Rich.
